The Safari world emerged in 1999 when, after years as a tour guide in Europe, Safari Pete returned to Australia to discover not only his love of powder blue Safari suits - but of giving backpackers useful information about his own beloved country!

The Backpacker Travel Auctions kicked off soon after with an information evening and unique travel auction at the Melbourne Metro YHA in Melbourne. The show aimed to give backpackers great entertaining information on travelling around Australia before they hit the road.

Since then, the shows have become extremely popular with travellers and there are a number of weekly info evenings at the YHA's in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Darwin. In the summer of 2002 we expanded to include the successful Safari Pete's Backpacking Oz and NZ Handbook. The love of wearing Safari suits has also caught on with the team growing to six hardworking safari's!
